In August 2020, Griggs went in for a regular pap smear and was told that she had stage IV cervical cancer.
A CT scan showed that there were lumps in her stomach.

Because she was no longer able to work, a GoFundMe campaign to assist with the payment of her medical expenses was begun, and as of Sunday, August 14, it had already raised more than $19,000.

She disclosed in February that her cancer was not responding to chemotherapy, and she subsequently began immunotherapy treatment.
