The Devastating Death Of MCU Star Ray Stevenson

Ray Stevenson, a senior actor who appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows, including RRR, the Thor and Divergent movies, and the Rome, Vikings, and Star Wars animated series, died on Sunday in Italy. He was 58. His representatives at Independent Talent confirmed the story, but they didn't give any more information. He was most recently cast in the historical drama 1242: Gateway to the West, where he took over the main part that Kevin Spacey was supposed to play.
Stevenson is known for his roles as Volstagg in Marvel's Thor series and Othere in History's Vikings. He played the main bad guy, Scott Buxton, in SS Rajamouli's box office hit RRR. He also played Gar Saxon in the animated Star Wars shows The Clone Wars and Rebels, and he was supposed to join Rosario Dawson in the upcoming spinoff of The Mandalorian called Ahsoka, which will air on Disney+.
Stevenson was born in Northern Ireland, but when he was eight, his family moved to England. When he was born in 1964, his father was stationed with the Royal Air Force (RAF) near Lisburn, County Antrim. His family moved to Newcastle upon Tyne, England, and he lived there for most of his youth.
When Stevenson saw John Malkovich in a play at a West End theater in London, he was moved to become an actor. He went to Bristol Old Vic Theatre School to learn how to act, and one of his first TV parts was in The Dwelling Place, a drama by Catherine Cookson. Later, he was in many British TV shows, such as Waking the Dead, Dalziel and Pascoe, and At Home with the Braithwaites.
Stevenson was going to play Baylan Skoll in the future Star Wars show "Ahsoka." Last month, he went to the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event. Stevenson talked at the event about how excited he was to be a part of the project. He said, “getting to wield the light saber is just the best feeling in the world.”
Stevenson has been in three Star Wars-related TV shows. He played Gar Saxon in "Star Wars: Rebels" in 2016 and was in two episodes of "Star Wars: Clone Wars" in 2020. "Ahsoka" is the third one.
Stevenson has had more than 60 roles since the 1990s, but his big break came in 2005 when he played Titus Pullo in the BBC/HBO series "Rome," which was about the last days of the Roman Republic and also starred "Banshees of Inisherin" actress Kerry Condon, James Purefoy, and Kevin McKidd.
He is also known for playing Volstagg, a "boisterous member of the Warriors Three," in Marvel's "Thor" series. Stevenson played Volstagg in the 2011 "Thor" movie. He also played the role in 2013's "Thor: The Dark World" and 2017's "Thor: Ragnarok."
Some of his first parts were in TV shows like "A Woman's Guide to Adultery," "The Dwelling Place," and "Band of Gold," where he was in nine episodes. He also played DI Tony Baynham on both seasons of "City Central" in the late 1990s.

Ray Stevenson, an Irish actor who was in movies like "Punisher: War Zone," "King Arthur," and the "Thor" movies and TV shows like HBO's "Rome" and the new "Ahsoka" series, died on Sunday in Italy. He was 58. No cause of death could be found. On the island of Ischia, Italian media said that he had been taken to a nearby hospital.
