The first podcast ever made dates back to 2003 when a software engineer named Dave Winer developed an RSS feed that Christopher Lydon later used to publish worth-listening interviews on his radio show.
Fast forward to 2024, podcasts are one of the most loved forms of content by people, and why wouldn’t it be? It offers so much value without fiction. It packs real-life stories and experiences that can help you grow as a person and professional.
But the problem with these podcasts is that they are long, they can consume a big chunk of your schedule and cause you disappointment if theyre not good enough.
To save you from the exact trouble, as a podcast lover I have swam through the ocean of podcasts and created this list of the best podcasts that will have you crave more (only if your brain likes getting new information). Now, without further ado, let’s dive right into them.
The Joe Rogan Experience – 16.7 Subs
Stuff You Should Know – 156k Subs
Huberman Lab – 5M Subs
Motiversity – 3.48M Subs
Hardcore History – 506k Subs
JRE or The Joe Rogan Experience is my favorite podcast out of all those I have included in this article.
The reason for keeping it on top of my list is because of the diversity of topics he covers in his podcasts ranging from science, and philosophy to politics, health, wildlife, and more. Guests from different backgrounds join him to talk about the trending topics. Even Elon Musk has been there on his podcast.
Oh, and I forgot to talk about the host: Joe Rogan is a UFC commentator, actor, and comedian who loves to talk about different ideas. He just puts cameras around while he is doing what he loves and converts that conversation into a podcast for his viewers.
I have been watching him since 2011. The quality of his videos wasn’t great back then but now they are great thanks to the advancement in the space of tech and my fiber internetwhich helps me watch and listen to the podcasts in 4k. This podcast is not like nothing bad and all good. I have seen some negative comments stating that the information shared on JRE are a bit unreliable and that some of the podcasts are just clickbait.
Stuff You Should Know is one of the most underrated podcasts that you can stream on YouTube.
Even most of the podcast lovers don’t know about this channel but it’s certainly a hidden gem. It covers a wide range of topics like science, history, philosophy, and pop culture.
This podcast is satisfying for curious minds because it dives deep into subjects and breaks the how-and-why part into simple ideas that are easily digestible by most people.
The hosts of the show are Josh Clark and Chuck Bryant. They are good colleagues who first met at HowStuffWorks.com (the blog from which the podcast originated) as editors and then they changed the medium from text to videos.
For people who want to improve themselves, Huberman Labs can be a life-changing podcast (only if they act upon his advice).
The host of the show is Andrew Huberman – a neuroscientist who simplifies the complex ideas related to humans and psychology into actionable advice. Andrew covers topics like stress management and sleep in his podcasts which is a major issue in this hyperactive age of the internet.
If you have been struggling with mental and physical issues, I do recommend watching his podcasts. I remember when I was struggling with my sleep, I watched one of his videos and it proved to be really helpful for me.
Are you feeling low and uninspired? Do you want a bit of motivational kick that can help you move?
Motiversity is a dedicated channel for helping people struggling with low self-esteem. It isn’t your typical podcast channel where two people talk while their faces are half-covered with big chunky microphones, no. It has a conversation but with your inner self and the speakers.
The theme of this podcast is the same throughout but it covers diverse topics that are related to motivation and inspiration. The channel has multiple speeches from renowned life coaches like Marcus Tyler, Billy Albrooks, and Coach Pain.
Motiversity can be your digital asset holding you on rainy days, so do check it out on YouTube.
Well, almost all of these popular channels like the one of Joe Rogan’s on and off talk about the historical events but if you want something that is purely dedicated to history, Hardcore History is the one to go for.
Hosted by Dan Carlin, the YouTube channel covers historical events like wars in detail and adds a bit of a sprinkle of fresh perspective.
Dan Carlin’s podcast might not be visually appealing but the way he narrates the events of the past is the most interesting part of his podcasts and his listeners love it.
